Springfield, IL – State Senator Tom Bennett (R-Gibson City) issued the following statement following Governor Pritzker’s decision to veto Senate Bill 76, which would have loosened the state’s decades-long nuclear ban by allowing for the construction of advanced, small modular reactors:
“Senate Bill 76 is a good bill that passed the General Assembly by a wide margin with strong bipartisan support. Illinois needs a strong, reliable power grid, and this legislation would have been a big step in that direction.
“Unfortunately, Governor Pritzker failed to deliver what would have been best for the state’s energy needs and would have assisted Illinois in its efforts to build a cleaner, stronger, and more robust power supply.
“I urge the Senate President and Speaker of the House to call for a vote to override this veto.”
